This is going to seem more like a novel than an update. So grab a cup of hot coco, curl up beside the fireplace with your favorite blanket and get comfy.
I spent the whole weekend (Saturday night sleepover included) at the hospital, so I haven’t had computer access; hence the lack of updates. On Friday night, Joey started having pain which indicated that he had a bowel blockage, so he had to do a round with a gastrointestinal lavage (AKA: liquid plumber for people). If any of you have ever had a colonoscopy, this is the stuff they make you drink to clear you out. On Saturday, he had an X-Ray which confirmed that his bowels were still blocked solid, (he was also still in extreme pain), so he had to do another round; last night he needed ANOTHER round. Still not sure if the coast (i.e. bowel) is clear, so he will need another X-Ray today to check that out.
Unfortunately, nearly all of the 10.5 liters of fluid that he had to drink to help clear him out is just sitting in his tissues now. This has severely restricted his movement (hence the Saturday night sleepover). He needed my help moving his legs around, getting in and out of bed, etc. Needless to say, this has interfered with his physiotherapy and the kidney docs are not happy about all of the extra fluid.
So I guess we’ll see what today brings. Hopefully his X-Ray comes back clear, but we’ll have to wait and see. Joey also needs a new dialysis line because the one he has in keeps kinking and interfering with his fluid removal, but we’re still waiting to see if that can be scheduled for today. Fingers are crossed on that one because he is swollen up like a balloon and dialysis is the only way he can start to get rid of that fluid.
Shameless plug: 2008 Joey’s Angels calendars are now available for $15 a piece. In Powell River, they are for sale at Image 1, Decibels, and Local Locos. Anybody else who is interested in purchasing one can just send me an email at email@example.com The calendars are full of new facts about Cystic Fibrosis and transplant. We make illness hilarious.
And now, the conclusion of today’s chapter: I’ll keep you posted on what’s happening in T-Dot. If you’ll excuse me, I need to go shopping for some really stretchy socks.
