1! (For Now)

Joey’s first week of doing dialysis twice a week went well. His creatinine before dialysis was 128 (normal range is from 80-120). That’s good; it’s still dropping steadily.

Next week, the plan is to try and reduce it to once a week and see how that goes. He has a prescription for a diuretic (Remember? The drugs that make you pee?) in case he starts to get too swollen. We’ll probably find out how this experiment went in a couple of weeks-the flow of info is a bit slower when you’re there less often.

Our darling Richard arrives on Christmas day for a visit and will be here for a week. The plan is to see Dirty Dancing live while he’s here. For those of you who aren’t aware, Joey and Richard have a history of singing “Love is Strange” to each other in elementary school. (Joey sang the part of Mickey and Richard was his Sylvia). So hopefully it will be a good show. And if not, it should be amusing to watch them get their groove on as they mouth the words along with the actors. God this website is great for bringing to light potentially embarrassing information. Perhaps I should stop in the spirit of Christmas.

Ho, ho, ho!

Joey’s dialysis has been reduced to twice a week, starting Monday. Woo-hoo! We are very excited about that. It will be nice to be able to spend a little more time away from the hospital.

It is snowing like crazy outside. Lucky we don’t have anywhere to go today; the weather outside is frightful.

Cold, but Happy

Exciting news: Joey went skating today for the first time in 10 years! Wow. He went for a lung function test this week and is up to 75% (from 71% for the last few weeks).

Dialysis is still happening 3 times a week. This should be reassessed towards the end of next week.

All in all, things are going pretty good here. We’re cold in T-dot, but very happy. Yeah!

Feeling Festive

Greetings all,

‘Tis the season to be stable; fa-la-la-la-la. Went to the GI yesterday for a follow up appointment and it seems that the new treatment regime is working well to keep Joey’s pain under control. Yippee!

Speaking of pee, Joey’s urine production was up for about a week and a half, but has tapered off again. That’s the way it seems to be going: up for a bit, down for a bit. But, his creatinine (an indicator of kidney function) has slowly been on the decline, so that’s a good thing. He’s still on the same dialysis schedule (3 days a week) and must be feeling fairly festive since he has talked me into attending the hemodialysis Christmas party. We’ve been told that there will be dancing. For those of you who have ever had the misfortune of seeing us cut a rug, you know what the dialysis folks are in for. Time to tear it up! Owwwww!
