Visiting in the ICU was restricted to Momma R and myself for a quick one. We both think he looks good. Mind you, our reference point is a double lung transplant, but you get the drift.
Apparently, it will take a bit of time to see if his new liver is going to co-operate with the rest of his body. They figure in about 24 hours or so, we should have a better idea of whether it will work. Also, he isn’t peeing very much at this stage, so there is some concern about damage to his kidneys. Time will tell. All of his stats are awesome and so far, everyone down there seems to be happy with how things are going.
Right now, I am going to be content with the fact that some person took the time to sign their donor card and save Joey’s life. The fact that Joey didn’t die waiting, like so many of our friends. I am still getting used to the idea that he made it through another long and frightening transplant surgery. This is what I will be thinking about when I fall asleep tonight. I can start worrying about the rest tomorrow.
Good night and thank you so much for all of the positive energy you’ve been sending our way. I wish I had time to respond to every one of you; I’m sorry I don’t. Just know that you are in our hearts too.
